Indiana football coach Terry Hoeppner told his team a few minutes ago that he needs surgery for a possible recurrent tumor and will be leaving the team for an estimated two to four weeks.
Hoeppner was treated for a brain tumor this summer, and his neurosurgeon Dr. Marshall Poor said a recent MRI revealed the need for another surgery.
Assistant head coach Bill Lynch has been named the interim head coach. He has had previous head coaching stints at Butler, Ball State and DePauw. He’ll speak with reporters at a 6:30 press conference along with Hoeppner, athletic director Rick Greenspan and senior captains of the football team.
We’ll have more on this story as it develops.
