Nothing new here, although Sampson’s take on Bassett surprised me a bit. Bassett didn’t appear to be doing anything differently than he did last year, save for playing defense with more tenacity.
Although I though Bassett was, at times, fairly brilliant last season and certainly one of the top five freshmen in the conference during a year that also saw skilled players such as Greg Oden and Mike Conley Jr. stop by for a quick stay.
Bassett, of course is a year older and should be more comfortable. And this new team — built to push the ball up floor and into the paint — may suit his strengths better.
Thoughts on the point guard position this year? It certainly was an adventure with Earl Calloway trying to adjust to Sampson last season; my early instinct is that it will once again be a major story line for this team despite the fact that there appears to be a few players capable of handling the duty.
