Firstly, and most significant, is the status of Eric Gordon. From what I’ve read, it seems like he’ll be in the starting line-up come Saturday. Sampson was pretty confident when he was asked in the press conference Tuesday night on whether or not Gordon would suit up against the Wildcats. “He’ll be fine,” he replied without hesitation.
Terry Hutchens of The Indianapolis Star was able to get in touch with Gordon’s father this week, and from what I read, it looks like they’re being cautious with E.J. They eat breakfast every Wednesday and Friday and Gordon Sr. said he would see how his son was feeling after they met this morning. No update yet. Here’s a link to the article.
Honestly, I assume E.J. will be a little sore in his lower back area and sit out of practice for a few days. But I would be genuinely surprised if he doesn’t play against Kentucky. A nationally-televised rivalry game? I bet Gordon’s been looking forward to this one for months.
On another note, Jonathan Hines of the Indiana Daily Student wrote a fine article this morning on longtime IU Trainer Tim Garl. Like myself, I’m sure many of you have always been interested in finding out more about the man that’s been on the IU sidelines for almost three decades. He’s seen it all, from championships to chair throws to three different coaches. Here’s a link to Hines’ story.
That’s it for now. We’ll keep you updated on Gordon’s status as it unfolds.
