Indiana: Jamie Braun, 19 points, 8 rebounds; Whitney Thomas, 16 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists

Jori Davis is making her seventh start of the season. Another freshman guard, Haylie Linn, had been a regular in the lineup, but IU coach Felisha Legette-Jack has said on numerous occasions that about seven players could be starters, so it’s not a huge shcoker when she changes it up.

Indiana 31, Illinois 31: Danyel Crutcher ties the game with a jumper from the free throw line. 16:30 left in the game.

Illinois 37, Indiana 35: Jenna Smith makes a pair of free throws and has 14 points now. Jamie Braun gets loose for a breakaway layup for IU.

Illinois 42, Indiana 36: Timeout with 11:53 to go. The Illini put a little spurt together with a 3-pointer and another bucket in consecutive trips. Andrea McGuirt is in the game and makes 1-of-2 free throws.

Illinois 45, Indiana 40: Nikki Smith makes an always crowd-pleasing 3 to pull the Hoosiers within two, but Rebecca Harris answers with a 3 at the other end…10:36 left in the game

Illinois 45, Indiana 44: IU closes within one as McGuirt banks in a jumper from the left side and Whitney Lindsay breaks free for a layup off a McGuirt steal.

Illinois 49, Indiana 44: Timeout with 7:46 left in the contest…IU is getting outrebounded 37-20 at this point. Jenna Smith has 16 caroms for the Illini to go with her 14 points.

Illinois 49, Indiana 47: Whitney Thomas converts a three-point play, much to her satisfaction after just missing another shot earlier on which she was fouled.

Illinois 56, Indiana 54: Chelsea Gordon makes a dagger of a 3-pointer, but Jamie Braun sinks one at the other end to keep the Hoosiers down just two. 4 minutes to go.

Indiana 59, Illinois 56: Amber Jackson gets a shot to fall and draws the foul. After a timeout, though, she misses her free throw. The Hoosiers get a jump ball called on the rebound and Braun delivers another 3!!!! The crowd gets even louder as IU gets the ball back after a stop on the other end.

Indiana 61, Illinois 56: Crutcher (15 points) fouls out for Illinois, and Kim Roberson makes both of her free throws. 2:45 left and IU ball after the Illini turn it over on the inbounds pass.

Indiana 63, Illinois 58: Lacey Simpson, the Big Ten’s steals leader, comes up with a big theft at midcourt, getting the ball away from Whitney Lindsay and earning the jump ball call which favors the Illini. But the visitors don’t get any points off the turnover. 1:01 and Roberson lines up for free throws.

Indiana 70, Illinois 62: The game comes to a close with Lindsay shooting six free throws and making five.

Illinois 7, Indiana 6: It was somewhat of a sluggish start for both teams, bu the pace is picking up now after six minutes or so. There’s 12:42 to go in the first half, and IU was not shotting well until the last two possessions or so.

Indiana 12, Illinois 11: Timeout now with 10:54 left in half one. IU has picked up the pace now, and Whitney Thomas hits a pair of free throws to give the Hoosiers the lead. Thomas has six points.

Illinois 15, Indiana 14: Jenna Smith, the Illini sophomore center, makes a terrific jumper from near the 3-point line, but Kim Roberson answers with a bucket of her own on the other end. Smith has eight points and seven rebounds with 8:01 left in the half.

Indiana 20, Illinois 15: Thomas scores her 10th point of the afternoon with a solid six-footer that banks in. She took a pass from Amber Jackson, who was on the baseline tracking down a loose ball.

Indiana 23, Illinois 19: Jamie Braun, who missed a wide open layup early in the game, nails a 3-pointer to give her 5 points on the day. Braun has now scored five times as many points as she did Thursday against Purdue.

Indiana 26, Illinois 19: Kim Roberson gets a steal at the top of the key on the Illini side and zips down for a fast break layup. She is fould on the shot and converts her free throw…2 minutes left

Indiana 29, Illinois 21: Roberson makes a sweet juke move up top, faking a dribble toward the hoop, pulling back, and firing a long two-pointer.

HALFTIME: The score stays the same, as Illinois gets off a couple shots in two trips down the floor but Danyel Crutcher missed a running jumper and Jenna Smith is called for traveling.

Stats: Smith for Illinois already has a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Crutcher has nine. For the Hoosiers, Thomas has 10 points and Roberson nine.
