Football signing day Wednesday

With signing day arriving, we’ll have updates on signees throughout the day as well as coverage of Bill Lynch’s 3:30 press conference to announce Indiana’s 2008 recruiting class.

The big question left for the Hoosiers is what Florida QB Orhian Johnson decides. We’d be in unchartered territory if he announces that he’s picked IU over Ohio State, but that seems possible based on what we’ve read. Johnson, from everything I’ve heard, is the kind of athletic QB who could really help the Hoosiers after Kellen Lewis is gone. His announcement is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.

This year has been unusually quiet in terms of players changing their commitments at the last moment, which is good news for the Hoosiers and for reporters, if you can imagine what it was like trying to stay on top of the Jerimy Finch soap opera last year. I still kind of expect at least one surprise commitment tomorrow because that always seems to happen.

Last year’s signing day was memorable and sad because it was an obviously ill Terry Hoeppner who announced the signing class to the media. This year, the big news should be the signing of Darius Willis, a running back who may be able to make an immediate impact on Indiana’s offense.

It’s Darius Willis, not Darius Johnson.

Is this one open to the public like those in the past? I really hope so, my son has been talking about it for 2 weeks now.

Mike, it’s invitation only for donors and season ticket holders. I’ve heard that once the end zone project is done they’ll have this event open to the general public, but right now space limits the number of people they can invite.
