Beat our brackets

Here’s your chance to try to prove what many have long suspected — that Chris and I have no idea what we’re talking about.

We’ve submitted five brackets each for an NCAA Tournament “Bracket Busters” contest being held by The Hoosier Times (our group of newspapers in Bloomington, Bedford and Martinsville). If you enter, you’ll be able to track your success as compared to us and others as each game in the tournament ends. Leaders and winners in the contest will be published in the newspaper and continuously at our Bracket Busters site.

There is a cost to enter this contest. It’s $10 for one bracket, $20 for three brackets and $30 for five brackets. You have a much better chance of winning this contest than the national ones you see that have thousands of participants. In our contest, people will compete only against others who enter on our Web site. The prizes in our contest are $500 for 1st place, $250 for second place and $100 for third place.

To check out our contest, click here.

Chris and I are not eligible to win awards in the contest. We’re just there for your amusement. I’ll also disclose that my bracket No. 4 was filled out by H-T computer guru Tom Callahan. So maybe I’ve got a winner with that one, although Tom – an IU basketball nut – reports that his wife routinely schools him with her picks.

Here’s our brackets:

im really starting to believe the HT is either a business that is incredibly greedy or is really struggling to make a profit. charging for their online version is unbelievable and now you are expecting people to pay for a chance to win a mere $500, at most!? no thanks!

vzw, I wish all of our stuff was free, too, but the people who run the H-T really do have to worry about making money. We are like any other business in that regard. It’s obviously your choice not to participate, but if you’re thinking that we’re making a windfall charging people $10 and giving away $850, that’s different than what I’m guessing. I’m mentioning this contest to our readers just because I think it will be more interesting if we have more people in it.
