White, Gordon named AP All-Americans

Here’s the release from J.D. Campbell, media relations director for Indiana Athletics:

Indiana senior D.J. White and freshman Eric Gordon were named second and
third team All-Americans by the Associated Press this afternoon. They are
the first Hoosiers to be honored by AP since Jared Jeffries in 2002. Gordon
is the first freshman in IU history to earn first, second, or third team
All-American honors.

White averaged 17.4 points and 10.3 rebounds and was named Big Ten Player of
the Year. He finished his career ranked 16th in IU scoring with 1,447
points. He also tied for ninth in career rebounding with 748 caroms. He
finished second all-time at IU in career field goal percentage (56.2) and
single season field goal percentage (60.5). He is the first player to
average a double-double (17.4 points and 10.3 rebounds) since Alan Henderson
in 1994 and just the second player to do so in the last 31 years.

Gordon was the Big Ten Freshman of the Year after averaging a league-best
20.9 points per game. He became the first Hoosier to average more than 20
points per game since Brian Evans averaged 21.2 in 1996. His 669 points
scored was an IU and Big Ten freshman record. That total was the 10th
highest overall in IU single season history. Gordon’s 231 free throws made
is the third highest single season total in IU history and his 277 attempts
ranked fourth.

So, IU and UCLA are the only two teams with two All Americans. And UCLA went to the Final Four and we lost to Arkansas badly in the first round.

  • Sam says:

Great to hear for DJ and EJ.

Now brace for bad news. Every time IU receives any sort of good news it’s almost immediately met with bad news.

IU is the definition of snake bit this year. Many thanks to Kelvin Sampson and Rick Greenspan for making that possible.

  • Brandon says:

Would White and Gordon be the first IU teammates to earn All-America honors in the same season since Wittman and Kitchel in 83?

to cin appears to be a coaching problem at IU

  • ww says:

Congrats to DJ and EJ. Enjoy.

  • Mark K says:

It could be another 25 years until we have 2 AP All Americans on the same team again, so much kudos out to DJ and EJ and much disdain out to Sampson mostly, but also to Greenspan/IU AD and Administration for their ruining of a potentially glorious season that could have been yet another Final Four appearance and possible championship.
