Roth excited about hire

Indiana University-signee Matt Roth was spending his Tuesday evening watching his high school baseball team play when he found out who the next coach at Indiana will be.

“Tom Crean to IU,” a text message from a friend read.

Roth, who committed to Kelvin Sampson in November but said after the former IU coach’s dismissal he would sit down with his parents and make a final decision, was thrilled at Indiana’s hire and said he remains “100 percent a Hoosier.”

“I was excited right away when I heard,” he said. “He had a great program at Marquette and has gained a lot of respect in the college basketball world. He’s also had a lot of great shooters to come along through there which is definitely a positive.”

Roth, a 6-3 sharpshooter from Washington, Ill., says he’s excited to talk with his future coach whenever that may be.

Calls to other IU recruits Devin Ebanks, Terrell Holloway and Tom Pritchard went unreturned. We’ll keep you updated on them.

Guys,

Any info on who the assistants are for Crean and whether they will come with him? You are doing a great job in staying on top of the story. I was wondering about recruits and I look at the site and there is an update.

Bravo!

Mark

Glad to see M. Roth still excited, hopefully T.Holla and D.e’banks will be as excited about the hire and come back to IU as they will be SUPER STARS here rather than other schools who already have many stars

Roth seems like a class act. Really loves IU basketball. We need more players like him.

get rid of all the punks and thug wanabees. Roth is the kind of kid IU wants. He comes to IU for IU, not themselves or a coach.

Best hire for IU in over 35 years when IU hired Bob Knight. Good deal for Indiana High School basketball players and future IU recruits.

Marquette was one of Holloway’s other choices, so there might be a good chance on that one!
