Replogle practicing, ready to go

For a story in today’s print edition, I talked to IU linebacker Tyler Replogle about a variety of subjects, including his recovery from a torn ACL and his brother committing to IU.

First things first — Replogle has been cleared by doctors for physical activity. His rehabilitation is over, but he’s building strength in his knee and participating in voluntary workouts. He described his right knee as 100 percent healthy.

I also asked him about Kellen Lewis offically returning to the team. While he said Lewis a great player and they were happy to have him back, he didn’t want to comment when I asked if the team was “relieved.” I wouldn’t read too much into that. More than likely, it’s just a kid not wanting to upset any teammates (like now-No. 2 quarterback Ben Chappell).

Most of you are probably aware that Adam, Tyler’s brother, has committed to IU for 2009. It had to be asked – is Adam, an inch taller and 30 pounds heavier, the little brother, or the younger brother? Tyler said he is still his little brother. And that, head-to-head, he could still beat Adam.

Expect the older Replogle to contend for playing time, even a starting position, at middle linebacker.
