Quick football update

A few notes from tonight’s football practice before I devote my full attention to soccer:

  • Injured quarterback Kellen Lewis was there, but in sweats and cleats (and with some sort of immobilization on his right ankle. Lynch isn’t sure of his status. My thought, right now, is that Lewis won’t be over his high ankle sprain enough to play against Northwestern Saturday. Those take a while to heal.
  • The offensive line is still a mess, with Cody Faulkner and Andrew McDonald trying to get healthy. Justin Pagan, the true freshman who has played tackle of late, also saw time at guard Wednesday. Lynch is trying to make sure sure he’s got enough players to fill any needs that might arise the rest of the year.
  • Tandon Doss, the freshman wide out, is back at full strength. He’ll be needed because Andrew Means will probably not play on Saturday. He’s got a cast on his left hand.
  • You remember how Indiana implemented those “wrinkles” in its offense prior to the Illinois game? It doesn’t look like we’ll see too much of Ian Reeves as the lead back on running plays against Northwestern. It really appears as though Lynch and his staff are trying to adjust to whatever they think the defense will give them. Lynch did say the lead back concept will continue to be used.
  • Tight end Max Dedmond was once again a star during practice. That’s often the case, even though it hasn’t always translated on Saturdays. But it appears as though Ben Chappell is more prone to looking for his tight end, and it also appears that Dedmond may be the team’s best option in the red zone. He made a diving catch for a score during a late-practice drill in which the No. 1 offense was facing the No. 1 defense.
  • Bob De Carolis was not at practice. Either were any other people who look like they might want to be Indiana’s next athletic director.

I wonder just how much this losing has an effect on if the injured ball players play. I am thinking some pride is hurting and it should. Just a theory!

I’m actually kind of surprised no AD would want to watch the practice. That’s the first issue any AD is going to have to deal with if they go to IU right now.

Scoop Poll:

Where will IU be ranked to start next season?
