FINAL: HOOSIERS 84, CARDINALS 68
Indiana will host Xavier Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the second round of the Preseason WNIT. Kiley Jarrett finishes with 11 points, four assists and two rebounds in front of a hometown crowd. Fellow former Cougar Whitney Thomas collects 15 points and seven rebounds for the victors.
2:50, SECOND HALF: Jori Davis returned with 5:50 left, scoring five points in just over a minute before fouling out on a charging call. Indiana now firmly in control of this one as six Hoosiers are now in double figures. And in case you’re wondering, Jamie Braun has not played a second in this one. HOOSIERS 81, CARDINALS 60
6:59, SECOND HALF: IU seems in good shape here, but Ball State just hanging around. 6-foot-3 freshman Sasha Chaplin making a big impact tonight with 11 points and six rebounds. Kiley Jarrett is stuck on 7 points but has had a couple nifty assists. Her high school teammate Whitney Thomas has 10 points and seven rebounds. HOOSIERS 68, CARDINALS 53
11:51, SECOND HALF: Indiana really working over Ball State inside. An old-fashioned 3-point play from Sasha Chaplin part of an extended IU run that now stands at 15-4. HOOSIERS 61, CARDINALS 42
14:48, SECOND HALF: Ball State got within 46-38, but Whitney Lindsay comes alive to spark a 10-2 IU run. The bad news is that Jori Davis has picked up her third and fourth fouls, so she won’t be back anytime soon. Still no sign of Jamie Braun, and she is buried on the end of the bench next to former North grad Lydia Serfling. HOOSIERS 56, CARDINALS 40
Ball State made a living at the line in the final four minutes, finishing the half 13-of-18 from the line as Indiana committed 13 team fouls. The Cardinals also took advantage of some inexperience on the floor due to the foul trouble. Kiley Jarrett finishes the half with 7 points on four free throws and a 3-pointer. Amber Jackson has 10 points and Whitney Lindsay has 9 to pace IU. HOOSIERS 44, CARDINALS 33
3:35, FIRST HALF: Whitney Thomas joins Jori Davis on the bench with two fouls. Indiana really trying to make the most of their size advantage as Jackson has six points and five rebounds with Chaplin adding four points and four rebounds off the bench. And Whitney Lindsay is 3-of-3 beyond the arc. HOOSIERS 38, CARDINALS 21
6:56, FIRST HALF: Kiley Jarrett gets her first points with just over nine minutes left on two free throws. The pace has slowed a bit and in Ball State’s favor, but nine players have appeared for Indiana so far. Jori Davis is sitting with two fouls. HOOSIERS 28, CARDINALS 17
11:56, FIRST HALF: Whitney Lindsay and Andrea McGuirt stepping up early on in Jamie Braun’s absence. Freshman Sasha Chaplin has also shown some nice flashes in her first appearance after missing the exhibition games with a leg injury. Whitney Thomas has 6 points so far, while Kiley Jarrett is 0-of-2 from the field with a rebound. HOOSIERS 22, CARDINALS 6
15:30, FIRST HALF: Jori Davis with the first two baskets of the season for Indiana. It’s worth noting that junior guard Jamie Braun is not in the starting lineup. She left practice early Monday, and was not present during the final half hour of practice that I attended Wednesday, so it would appear there is some discipline involved. We’ll see if and when she plays. Meanwhile, the Hoosiers are off and attacking the basket so far. HOOSIERS 10, CARDINALS 2
There’s a little extra buzz in the building tonight because this game actually counts. The winner advances to take on Xavier Sunday in the Preseason WNIT. The Musketeers dropped Robert Morris this afternoon in Cincinnati, 79-49.
Besides the game updates, I’ll also keep an eye on former Bloomington North standouts Whitney Thomas and Kiley Jarrett, who will play against each other tonight for one final time.
