IU women will continue WNIT play on the road Friday or Saturday

Just announced by IU:  The women’s basketball team will play the loser of a WNIT game Wednesday between Oklahoma and Middle Tennessee State.

If Oklahoma loses, IU will play OU Friday at 8 p.m. in Norman, Okla.

If MTSU loses, IU will play MTSU Saturday at 8 p.m. in Murfreesboro, Tenn.

Does that mean they’ll take the WNIT logo off the Assembly Hall court before tomorrow’s game? I got over a dozen calls from friends around the country Saturday night, wondering what that was and why it was left on the court for the men’s game.

ANY change in the appearance of that hallowed hardwood is a big deal. People notice when landmarks are altered. Besides, those decals always create slip hazards for the players. If they want to advertise the women’s games, use the video boards on the scorer’s table.

Good Lord. The women had games on the 14th and 16th, and the guys had a game on the 15th. I’m sure it will be gone for tomorrow’s game.

And if the women can play on the court and somehow manage to not slip, I think the men can handle it.

I’ve gotta say that I agree with Jimmy. It’s not that big of a deal, it’s a hardwood floor, not a shrine to IU basketball. Besides, nothing all that great has happened on that floor.
