Watford delaying his signing?

Christian Watford

Do not read anything into this. I repeat — there is no reason, right now, to think this is anything other than a small delay.

But Christian Watford, who previously had said he would sign today (the first official day class of 2009 basketball players can sign with their chosen school), told the Birmingham (Ala.) News he would sign on Friday.

Watford has blossomed into one of the top senior basketball players in the nation since playing for his father from the first through eighth grade. The 6-foot-7 guard/forward, who added 15 pounds of muscle to his frame over the summer, was coveted by many of the top college basketball programs. On Friday he will sign scholarship papers at a 1:30 p.m. press conference to play for Indiana University and coach Tom Crean.

Watford, the No. 72 player in the country according to scout.com, is a versatile small forward who could lead the Hoosiers in scoring several times before his career is over.
