Sure to be a hot time in the ol’ U Gym tonight as the Big Ten volleyball season starts for unbeaten host Indiana and arch-rival Purdue.
The place is pretty packed with Crimson-clad fans, but Purdue partisans also have a section behind the Boilermaker bench, as IU is currently completing its warmup. Not that much warmup is needed — it’s toasty in here already.
Purdue enters 9-2 and in possession of The Monon Spike, the traveling trophy for the series that is not at stake tonight (it is always awarded to the winner of the second match between the squads each season). The teams split last year, but Purdue won at IU in the second match to claim the Spike.
Sitting on an upper press row immediately behind Ashley Benson’s father Kent Benson, the All-American IU basketball center, so here’s hoping he doesn’t stand up throughout.
For those wishing to watch the match, it’s being broadcast live on the Big Ten network.
