Taylor’s recruitment open, but has visit to IU next week

Raymon Taylor, a four-star “athlete” from Detroit who verbally committed to Bill Lynch’s staff at Indiana, said his recruitment is open and he’s considering all of his options, but he does have a visit scheduled to Indiana on the weekend of Jan. 15.

Though Taylor has said since Lynch’s firing that he was still committed but looking at other options, his recruitment by Michigan had picked up in recent weeks. He said he received a scholarship offer from his home state school about 2 1/2 weeks ago, and that he was scheduled to take a visit to Ann Arbor this weekend.

Plans changed, though, when Michigan decided to fire coach Rich Rodriguez. The Wolverines have postponed all visits until they hire a new head coach.

“It’s been stressful,” Taylor said. “Every school that I’ve been ready to commit to fires their coach. It’s been crazy. But everything happens for a reason, and hopefully God will put me in the right place at the right school.”

Taylor will be in Bloomington this weekend and he said he’s gotten along well with IU’s new defensive staff so far. He said he recently spoke with co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach Doug Mallory as well as cornerbacks coach Corey Raymond. He was impressed with both, he said, and said Raymond’s NFL experience is especially appealing.

He knows a lot of things,” Taylor said. “He  played in the NFL, he knows what it takes to get somebody to the NFL. He was telling me that we’re going to work on my footwork, work on a lot of footwork drills. He’ll mix the coverages up. He can get me on to the next level. He knows a lot of stuff. If I do go there, I think they’re going to make me a great DB.”

Taylor said he is also being pursued by Iowa and Illinois. He has already taken a visit to Iowa and he will take a visit to Illinois the week after his visit to Indiana. At the moment, he said, it’s unlikely that he will make a decision any way until Michigan makes a hire.

“I’m not in a rush or anything,” Taylor said. “I’m not trying to make the wrong decision.”

Sounds like he’s going to Michigan if they offer. Otherwise sounds like we have a good shot.

Are there any new targets on Wilson’s radar? or is this class basically Lynch’s class and he is patching things up?

Michigan has already offered slojoe. About 2-1/2 weeks ago.

Wilson should be targeting every Michigan recruit, just like Michigan did to IU’s recruits after Lynch was fired. All’s fair in the football recruiting wars. And that might send a signal to those previously verbally committed recruits that have opened up the process that they could be replaced. IU should be hyper-aggressive in recruiting right now while following all the rules.

I really hope he goes to IU. It would help the defense so much. It sounds like Michigan is where he will go but he’s still a soft verbal to IU. we are ahead of Michigan in picking a coach and staff and it sounds like he really likes CB’s coach, Corey Raymond. So maybe we have a better chance then we think. Maybe he’ll fall back in love on his visit! So Raymon, if you’re reading this, Please come to IU!

The investment in Corey Raymond will create the biggest return of all for IU. Every time this NFL veteran talks to a recruit they will see him as the role model to their goal. There is no telling how many talented recruits he will influence to come to Bloomington.

Now that we know Harbaugh won’t be Michigan’s new head FB coach, the chances of getting Taylor to sign have improved.

  • Jubilee says:

Sounds like he doesn’t want to be at IU. Sounds like Michigan is his place. Who knows if he still has an offer at Michigan due to their coaching situation.
