Indiana running back Darius Willis had a protective order filed against him, stemming from an alleged domestic dispute in December. Chris Howell | Herald-Times
1. INDIANA FOOTBALL
While he has not been formally charged with any crime, and it is unclear if it is a possibility, Indiana running back Darius Willis did have a protective order filed against him, Dustin wrote.
In court documents, the student said she and Willis were dating at the time of the incident.
In her petition for a protective order, she wrote that he choked her and pushed her onto his bed, then threw her across the room. She wrote that Willis then looked down at her and said, “That felt good. I ain’t felt like that in a while.”
The student said Willis, who’s listed at 6-feet, 224 pounds, then threw her belongings at her, cursed at her and told her to leave.
It appears Miami (Ohio) running backs coach Deland McCullough may be leaving to take the job at Indiana, and three former assistant coaches have found work (or are close to it).
Co-defensive coordinator Mike Ekeler was living in a RV next to Memorial Stadium, the IDS’ Stephanie Kuzydym wrote.
2. INDIANA BASKETBALL
The calls have gone against Indiana all season, but that comes down to execution and respect, I wrote.
Inside the Hall’s Alex Bozich looked at free-throw rate at Indiana and Marquette under Tom Crean, and found a downward trend.
Three Hulls assists during the second half showed his vision, Inside the Hall’s Ryan Corazza writes (with pictures).
3. BIG TEN BASKETBALL
Ohio State’s Jon Diebler set a school record with 10 3-pointers last night, a big part of Ohio State’s 82-61 win against Penn State, the Columbus Dispatch’s Bob Baptist wrote. The stars seemed to be aligned for a historic night for Penn State, but instead there was just fading Tournament hopes, the Daily Collegian’s Alex Angert wrote.
It was a perfect ending at Mackey Arena for JaJuan Johnson and E’Twaun Moore, who starred as Purdue topped Illinois, the Lafayette Journal & Courier’s Jeff Washburn wrote. Despite the loss, Illinois played better than it had in a while, the Champaign News-Gazette’s Paul Klee wrote.
Despite his struggles, Michigan State’s Kailin Lucas is an all-time great Spartan, the Lansing State Journal’s Joe Rexrode wrote. Cezar Guerrero canceled his official visit to Iowa, the Iowa City Press-Citizen’s Pat Harty wrote.
Minnesota freshman Maverick Ahanmisi will get the start at point guard tonight against Northwestern, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune’s Myron P. Medcalf wrote.
4. SOMETHING TO READ
Alex Legion was once a talented prep star headed to Michigan. Then he was at Kentucky. Then Illinois. Then Florida International. Now, no one knows, the Detroit News’ Eric Lacy wrote.
His latest transgression was his dismissal last month by Florida International coach Isiah Thomas for an undisclosed violation of team rules.
Legion thought Thomas, the former Pistons star, could re-ignite his career.
“I am very excited, encouraged and humbled to have the opportunity to play for and learn the professional game of basketball from coach Isiah Thomas,” Legion said in a statement after he transferred.
Attempts by The Detroit News to reach Legion, 22, were unsuccessful, but he responded on his Twitter page to an inquiry about his future plans with the following: “Idk (I don’t know) I’ve been doing a lot of singing lately.”
