The Indiana baseball schedule is finished (yes, before the basketball schedule). Here’s the link. The release follows.
BLOOMINGTON, Ind.- IU head baseball coach Tracy Smith finalized his 2012 schedule this week, a 56-game slate which sends the Hoosiers as far south as Tampa, Fla., and out west to California.
Indiana opens Coach Smith’s seventh season at the helm by competing in the Big Ten/Big East Challenge down in Tampa/St. Petersburg. The Hoosiers trek to New Orleans the following week for a three-game stint with Tulane. The Green Wave has advanced to the College World Series twice since the turn of the century and played in the NCAA Regionals 10 of the last 14 years.
The Cream and Crimson are also set for non-conference three-game series at East Tennessee State (Mar. 2-4), Cal-State Northridge (Mar. 9-11), Loyola Marymount (Mar. 16-18) and a home series hosting Georgia Southern on Apr. 20-22. While in California, IU will play a pair at the University of San Diego.
The Big Ten’s newest institution, Nebraska, is guided by first-year head coach and two-time MLB All-Star Darin Erstad. The Huskers roll into Bloomington from May 5-7.
Indiana’s home opened is scheduled for March 21, a 3 pm midweek contest versus Eastern Kentucky.
