This is coming a bit late, due to my recent run-in with flu-like symptoms. So here’s your weekend recap of IU’s commits and targets. Tonight, Dustin and I will head out to Indianapolis for the Marion County Tournament, which includes Jeremy Hollowell, Devin Davis, Yogi Ferrell, Trevon Bluiett, and a few others of interest. 2011
Jeremy Hollowell (Lawrence Central): Hollowell had his best week of the season yet, becoming a 1,000-point scorer at Lawrence Central and doing so by scoring 38 in a loss and tallying 36 points and 11 rebounds, including going 10-of-10 from the charity stripe, in a win over Lawrence North. Hollowell has looked near unstoppable scoring the ball since his six-point effort at South. Hollowell plays tonight at Decatur Central in the Marion County Tournament.
Yogi Ferrell (Park Tudor): In a Park Tudor win, Ferrell had a very “Yogi” statline, putting up 16 points and dishing out six assists. He’s been having a good season, but guys like Hollowell and Gary Harris might lead him in the race for Indiana Mr. Basketball, in my humble opinion.
Ron Patterson (Broad Ripple): Patterson’s team tore up an incapable Herron team, as Patterson’s statline was all over the place. Patterson put up a game-high 18 points and also added five boards and five steals.
Hanner Perea (La Lumiere): In a win for La Lumiere, Perea also had a game-high point total, putting up 18 points against Chicago Farragut.
Peter Jurkin (UFCA): Jurkin showed more of his scoring prowess, tallying 21 points in one game and 11 points in another. He’s definitely improved his scoring ability this season.
2013
Devin Davis (Warren Central): Davis continues to show that he’s a good candidate for moving up to a 4-star, the next time the scouting services re-issue their rankings. He had 27 points and nine rebounds in a good win over Lawrence North. Then, he tallied 12 points in a blowout win over Terre Haute South.
Collin Hartman (Cathedral): Hartman has been more of a question mark than any of IU’s other commitments, and I’d like to get out to see him soon. He put up 21 points combined in two games, both wins for Cathedral. It’s important to remember that Hartman isn’t the only capable scorer on his team like some of these guys are, but still, he hasn’t really been scoring at a high clip.
Luke Fischer (Germantown, WI): The newest commitment to Indiana had a team-high 21 points in his undefeated Germantown team’s latest win.
BeeJay Anya (DeMatha, MD): Anya had just 10 points in a win last Thursday, but he followed it up with a big-time performance in West Virginia, putting up 17 points, seven rebounds, and (at least) 17 blocks, according to Peegs.com.
Bo Zeigler (Detroit Community, MI): No stats available this week, but according to Alex Bozich at Inside the Hall, Zeigler visited Central Michigan this weekend, where his uncle is the head coach. Funny enough, his cousin Trey Zeigler, has been one of the Chippewas’ best players this season and was one of the top recruits in the 2011 class. Will Bo make it a family affair?
Derek Willis (Bullitt East, KY): Willis had one of the more impressive performances of the season of any of IU’s targets, tallying a triple double (16 points, 13 rebounds, 11 blocks) (!!) on Friday night against Jeffersontown. That’s a heck of a game.
2014
James Blackmon Jr. (Bishop Luers): Blackmon continues his absolute tear through the Fort Wayne area, as he registered 31-point and 33-point games in two wins for Luers. He’s been the state’s most prolific scorer, regardless of class, this season.
Trey Lyles (Arsenal Tech): Lyles had a solid 15-point, 10-rebound game this weekend, but last Wednesday, Lyles dominated against Decatur Central, tallying 26 points and 13 rebounds.
Trevon Bluiett (Park Tudor): I’ll be there to see Bluiett tonight, but his weekend solid, pulling down nine rebounds and registering 15 points in a Park Tudor win. Like I said, he’ll be a part of the Marion County Tournament tonight.
Aaron Brennan (Guerin Catholic): The newest target on IU’s radar for 2014, Brennan scored 19 points in a win over Chatard this weekend.
Jaquan Lyle (Evansville Bosse): Lyle sat out due to a coach’s decision (we’re not sure what that means) on Friday, but against Vincennes Lincoln he put up a solid 16-point effort.
Cliff Alexander (Chicago Curie): With Tom Izzo reportedly in attendance (according to Inside the Hall), Alexander had a monster performance with 20 points and 16 rebounds.
Grant Evans (Wapahani): Evans had 16 points and a more uncommon, yet impressive nine rebounds in a Wapahani win.
Since we are over signed by one for next year who do you guys think is going to be the odd man out my best guess is that Elston transfers because he has to know he isn’t gonna see the court next year.
Hmmm, it would be interesting to see someone transfer for their senior season.
I hope it’s not Abel… But that will be a suddenly very talented and deep backcourt, as well as a very long and athletic groups of wings, and basically all the new guys are Hoosier natives.
Hulls, Abel, Ferrell, Dipo, Creek(?), Patterson, Hollowell, Sheehey, Watford, Etherington
Who are the most likely guys left out of the rotation? In my opinion it’s Abel, Etherington, Creek, and Patterson. Obviously Patterson won’t be transferring, or he’d just de-commit. I think Etherington would rather pay to go to IU and be a non-scholly participant than transfer. Creek is just a wild card, but im not sure why they’d petition so hard for additional eligibilty if he wasnt in their palns. So that tells me that Abel is the most likely, outside of maybe Elston.
