Five Hoosiers in Cape Cod championship series

Indiana is well represented in the championship series of the Cape Cod, which has historically been established as the most celebrated summer baseball league for college players. Infielder Dustin DeMuth and catcher Kyle Schwarber (who is playing outfield for the summer) are playing for the Wareham Gatemen while first baseman Sam Travis and pitchers Johnny Hoffman and Joey DeNato are playing for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox. DeMuth had two hits for Wareham on Wednesday to help give the Gatemen a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series. It continues today at 7 p.m.

Schwarber and Travis have had two of the best hitting seasons in the vaunted wooden-bat league. Schwarber ranked fourth in the league in batting average, hitting .343 with eight home runs and 38 RBIs. Travis is sixth with a .339 average, four home runs and 39 RBIs. Travis, however, is out for the rest of the series after taking a pitch off the foot on Wednesday.

Been told by a source (Tracy Smith) that the game can be found on live stream at 7 p.m. The following is a link to Cape Cod’s internet webstream page. You can click on either Wareham’s team broadcast page or Yarmouth-Dennis’s webstream page to find a link. Can’t testify to the quality of either stream, but it’s an option.

Dustin, it’s the Cape Cod Baseball League (CCBL). Also, you’re right, it’s probably the best college baseball summer league out there. The league uses wooden bats and gets a lot of great college players from around the country. As someone who grew up watching the Cape Cod Baseball League as a kid and throughout high school, if you are a big baseball fan and have the opportunity to vacation on the Cape during the summer I would definitely suggest getting out there to check it out. Watching this baseball is a great way to spend an evening.
