in terms of Jurkin and a medical redshirt, I too had thought the ship had sailed, but I did some more research the other day and I think he can get his year back if he does not play any more games. The rules have 2 factors from what I can see.
1) <20% of the games
2) no playing in the 2nd half of the season

the 1st is no issue
the 2nd would work that his last game he played in is in fact in the 1st half. IU has 31 games and I believe the PSU game was IU game #15. This excludes the exhibition, but even then it would be #16 of 32.

so i have a feeling you will not see PJ play any more games

That was indeed game No. 15, but the problem I see is that he is out there warming up and shooting, etc. before every game, which in no way suggests that the injury is so severe that he could not play, which is what will have to be proven to the NCAA in order to get the medical redshirt. And given the NCAA’s previous love shown to Mr. Jurkin, hard to fathom they would be terribly soft-hearted. And the nine-game suspension is the other factor. He did not play, but could have had he not been suspended which would have put him over the 20% limit. I’m not sure that can be held against him, but you never know.

I am for sure no student of the NCAA RS criteria but the 9 game suspension is nil, a non issue and will be of no factor in the decision pro or con. It is a non issue just as if he had played the 1st 5 games would be. I do think Jeremy rightfully establishes that dressing for games and the pregame warmups could add support he is healthy enough for game participation. Someone better versed will get closer to the possibilities.
