Zeller named Big Ten co-Player of the Week

A little late on this, but IU sophomore center Cody Zeller was named Big Ten co-Player of the Week along with Michigan State point guard Keith Appling. Zeller had 19 points in each of the Hoosiers’ two wins and posted a double-double in both games.

Cody Zeller, Indiana

7-0, So., C, Washington, Ind./Washington

·         Averaged a double-double of 19 points and 10.5 rebounds in two games last week, helping Indiana to wins over in-state rival Purdue and top ranked Michigan

·         Scored 19 points on Wednesday against Purdue, also bringing down 11 rebounds while adding two assists in 25 minutes

·         Shot 80 percent from the floor on Saturday against Michigan, finishing with 19 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks in 34 minutes

·         Wins his second career Big Ten Player of the Week honor and second this season

·         Last Indiana Big Ten Player of the Week: Victor Olapido (Jan. 28, 2013)

 

 

Keith Appling, Michigan State

6-1, Jr., G, Detroit, Mich./Pershing

 

·         Poured in a game-high 24 points, adding eight rebounds, seven assists and one block in Michigan State’s victory over Illinois on Thursday

·         Scored or assisted on 11 of the Spartans’ 14 second-half field goals, tallying 19 points and six assists and helping the Spartans shoot 87.5 percent from the field after halftime

·         Wins his third career Big Ten Player of the Week accolade and first this season

A.J. Hammons, Purdue

·         Averaged 24.5 points on 57.6 percent shooting, 9.0 rebounds and 3.0 blocks in games against Indiana and Northwestern last week

·         Finished with a career-high 30 points against Indiana on Wednesday, shooting 71.4 percent from the floor and chipping in five blocks and five rebounds

·         Recorded his second double-double of the season against Northwestern on Saturday, finishing with 19 points and 13 rebounds

·         Earns his first Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor
