TAJ WILLIAMS SIGNS NLI, HOOSIERS 23RD 2013 SIGNEE

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana head football coach Kevin Wilson announced Thursday one of the nation’s top prep wide receivers, Taj Williams, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play at Indiana University in 2013. Williams is the 23rd member of the Hoosiers 2013 signing class.

The 6-4, 175-pounder played for head coach Yusuf Shakir at Lincoln High School in Tallahassee, Fla. Williams is a Rivals.com four-star prospect who is rated No. 214 in Rivals250, the No. 25wide receiver nationally and the No. 34 prospect in Florida by Rivals.com.

Williams made 56 receptions for 786 yards and 11 touchdowns as a senior. He also recorded four interceptions as a defensive back, including one to seal Lincoln’s regional championship victory.

A first team all-state selection, Williams played in the Offense-Defense All-American Bowl. He was named the Leon County wide receiver of the year and selected a team captain and Lincoln’s most valuable player.

Williams also is a track standout, where he claimed a 2012 state championship as a member of Lincoln’s 4×100 relay team.

Rivals.com ranks Indiana’s signing class fourth in the Big Ten and 38th nationally. Williams is the fifth four-star prospect in the class, which is tied with Nebraska for the third-most in the conference, trailing only Ohio State and Michigan.

IU has signed 13 defensive players, six offensive players and four athletes. The Hoosiers have added six defensive linemen, four linebackers and three defensive backs on defense and three wide receivers, two tight ends and one running back on offense.

The class features players from eight different states, including six from Florida, five from Indiana, four from Georgia, four from Ohio, one from Illinois, one from Nebraska, one from Louisiana and one from New York.

Normally I’d be raving about this new player but I’m so nervous about tonight’s MSU game. As you can see, by this http://buckyville.yuku.com/sreply/835198/All-seeding-possibilities-explained#.UTkj4Rw4tgl everything is riding on the MSU winning.

Wilson deserves a raise just for the talent he’s been able to sign for 2013. Glass needs to be prepared to do whatever it takes to keep Wilson and his staff.

Based on this news, I think I will celebrate by consuming a reasonable amount of my favorite adult beverage this evening. Wow, has IU ever been able to secure that many 4-star recruits in one class?

JonnyHoosier, I’ll be out front in support of Wilson getting a raise, but first he has to produce a winning season. Finishing 6 – 6 this year would represent great progress, but a winning season would produce the additional revenue necessary to justify increasing the football coaching compensation budget. Signing players like Taj Williams indicates IU football is pointed in the right direction, but winning seven games is something entirely different.

Gunner Kiel transferring from ND! Looks like Coach Wilson knows what he’s doing!

Spe, if what you say is true, its no surprise. In fact, several posters on this site, myself included, predicted Gunner would transfer. I mean, you can’t even find him on the ND depth chart. He had virtually no chance of playing for several years at ND. It was obvious that young man had some issues, maturity and decision making being two that were pretty obvious. Not to present sour grapes, but maybe Wilson and IU football dodged a bullet when Kiel de-committed.

If I remember correctly, Gunner is the “baby” of the family. And like so many people raised as the youngest child in a large family, it often takes them a little longer to mature. The Kiels seems nice nice people, and he seemed like a nice young man. I hope he gets his act together and makes something of his physical talent. He should have no problem finding a school that needs a strong armed QB.
