Indiana coach Kevin Wilson said on the Big Ten teleconference that right tackle Peyton Eckert’s back injury has not responded to treatment and that Eckert will have season-ending surgery. Eckert started the last two seasons at right tackle but hasn’t played in a game yet this year. He does have a redshirt available.
Right tackle Ralston Evans has been starting in his place. Though he suffered an injury in Saturday’s loss to Michigan State, Wilson said he expects him to be ready. Right guard Jake Reed, who also suffered a minor injury, is likely to play as well.
Eckert is the third offensive lineman to suffer a season-ending injury for the Hoosiers. Right guard Dan Feeney suffered a season-ending Lisfranc injury in the preseason. His replacement David Kaminski tore his ACL against Penn State and is out for the year as well.
