Trending Now: IU basketball notes

NUMBERS GAME
0 Number of times Indiana has been outrebounded this season.

11 Assists per game averaged so far this season by the Hoosiers, who posted a 14.3 assist per game average one year ago.

15 Indiana has now won 15 consecutive times following a loss. The Hoosiers’ last two-game losing streak came against Ohio State and Nebraska in January of 2012.

RECRUIT WATCH

JAMES BLACKMON JR., 6-3, G, Marion, 2014: Made his Marion debut an impressive one, breaking his father’s single-game scoring record with 54 points against Irvington Prep. Followed that up with 39 points in an 85-84 loss to Lawrence North. Now 15-of-26 this season from 3.

ROBERT JOHNSON, 6-3, G, Chesterfield, Va., Benedictine Prep, 2014: Averaging 27 points per game through the first three contests, Johnson scored 27 and 35 in last week’s two wins as the Cadets improved to 3-0. He’s now 10-of-21 from 3 this season.

MAX HOETZEL, 6-7, F, Calabasas, Calif., Wilbraham and Monson Academy, 2014: The Titans are 1-1 on the season, but no stats available.

AS GOOD AS GORDON

Duke freshman Jabari Parker started the season with seven straight 20-point games, the first freshman to do that since Indiana’s Eric Gordon in 2007-08. Parker scored just 19 in his next game against Arizona, snapping the streak.

BACK ON THE BUSS

Reigning Illinois Miss Basketball and IU women’s signee Tyra Buss is back on her record-setting pace to start the 2013-14 season for Mt. Carmel (Ill.). Buss opened the season with a 49-point game and had a season-high 50 in a 66-60 win over Guerin Catholic at the Robinson (Ill.) Tourney on Nov. 30. She was 15-of-33 from the field in the game, including 8-of-17 3s, to go with 10 steals, three rebounds and two assists. Buss is averaging 44.5 points per game en route to a 5-1 start to the season, a healthy start toward breaking her Illinois state record 38.5 ppg average last year.

Anyone still upset over JBJ making sure he got it right…

When I was as young as Blackmon, I sure wish I had double checked some things. I see no travesty in what he did. Just one mans opinion though. Even Lyles. If Kentucky is a better fit, more power to ya brother.

With Blackmon and Buss arriving on campus next summer, it looks like IU is going to have two scoring machines next season. I know it’s High School, but wow, those two can fill it up!

Spot on Po, these kids (Blackmon, Buss and Johnson) can put the ball in the peach basket. It’s great to see Coach Miller’s system producing results so quickly. We fans need to keep pace, show up the the Hall and support these young ladies (and men…if you can get a ticket). Go Hoosiers!

Adding Buss to an NCAA team will make us a dynamic force. Now if only the students would show up to the games and support the team.

We may have to pull a Colorado and force students to go to women’s games if they want to see the men play.

    1) Anybody watch the ND/North Dakota State game couple of nights ago?..The ND guy giving his teammate the finger while going to the bench for a TO. Was still bending his ear after the TO.

    2) Did the woman’s BB attendance get better during the recent dark-days for men’s bb..?

    3) 2-3 yrs ago, the IU volleyball team was always at the men’s bb game, in the lobby giving out tickets to their games. Bring a daughter/grandaughter to game free. They were very active promoting their game. And I admit it worked for me, took my grandaughters to a couple of matches.

These recruits are awesome! Can’t the HT pay a student manager as a stringer for $20/mo to get all of Max Hoetzel’s stats on a regular basis?

Men’s final 4 in Indy 2015. Could be a good thing.

Heck, if I lived in or near B-town, I’d go to the women’s games next year just to watch Buss. That young lady is something to see and well worth the price of admission.

Buss is a phenom!. She could probably have gotten full-ride scholarships for Cross Country, tennis, and track & field if she wanted to. In addition, she’s a straight A student.

As for basketball, watching some of her videos, she’s hitting 3-pointers from NBA range on a regular basis. She is impressive and has a good chance to win next year’s 3-point contest at midnight madness.

Tyra Buss has amazing 3 point range, she shoots from as far out as any men’s player I have ever seen! She is a tremendous athlete. The future looks great for IU women’s basketball! Go Hoosiers!

If I lived in Indiana I would definitely make a few trips to watch her play in Assembly next year. Who knows maybe I will by then… The world works in mysterious ways… It sometimes brings us people like Harvard.

Does anyone recognize this? In Internet slang, a troll is a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people, by posting inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a forum, chat room, or blog), either accidentally or with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.
