Indiana senior left-hander Joey DeNato was taken in the 19th round of the Major League Baseball Draft with the No. 562 overall pick.

DeNato graduates from Indiana as the school’s all-time leader in wins (37) and strikeouts (297) as well as innings pitched (369 1/3). He was an All-Big Ten selection in all four years of college and was the Big Ten Pitcher of the Year this season, also earning third-team All-America honors. As a senior, he was 13-1 with a 1.82 ERA and 81 strikeouts in 109 innings.

DeNato is the fourth IU player taken in this year’s draft, joining catcher Kyle Schwarber (1st round, fourth overall), first baseman Sam Travis (2nd round, 67th overall) and Dustin DeMuth (fifth round, 146th overall).

A steal in the 19th Round. At worst DeNato is going to make for a pretty darn good middle relief pitcher.
