Indiana signee Josh Ockimey taken in fifth round by Boston Red Sox

Josh Ockimey, a 6-foot-4, 220-pound left-handed first baseman from Neumann Goretti High School in Philadelphia and an Indiana signee, was taken in the fifth round of the Major League Baseball draft by the Boston Red Sox.

Ockimey, a highly-regarded power hitter, would likely be favored to win the starting position at first base, likely to be vacated by Sam Travis, who was also taken by the Red Sox. However, Ockimey will be offered a signing bonus that will be ¬†difficult to pass up. The No. 164 spot in last year’s draft received a $371,000 signing bonus.
